An immersive course that challenges assumptions about Islamist extremism and strengthens safeguarding judgement. Led by a former Islamist. Islamist terrorism remains the UK’s most significant terrorist threat by volume. Yet figures to March 2025 show that Prevent referrals concerning Islamist extremism were less than half those involving the extreme right. There is also a significant age disparity: 82% of those arrested, charged and convicted under terrorism legislation were over 18, compared with just 47% of Prevent referrals. The challenge extends beyond the statistics.
Some frontline professionals lack confidence in recognising and discussing Islamist radicalisation in adults, while concerns about being perceived as racist or Islamophobic may deter them from raising legitimate safeguarding concerns. This raises a fundamental question: what do you see — and when should you submit a Prevent referral? Pathways, Not Profiles aims to strengthen professional confidence in recognising Islamist radicalisation in adults, discussing concerns, and making appropriate Prevent referrals. Comments are closed.
