Employers can check the criminal record of someone applying for a role. This is known as getting a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. You can request a more detailed check for certain roles, for example in healthcare or childcare.
We Are An Approved DBS Umbrella Body
What is a DBS umbrella body? BPRCVS acts on behalf of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to process criminal record applications on behalf of charities, community groups, faith groups, and voluntary organisations.
BPRCVS will check your applications before submission to ensure that all information required has been completed and is correct. This helps you avoid delays in recruiting your staff.
Types Of DBS Check
We offer both standard and enhanced DBS checks for staff and volunteers.
Individuals can request a basic DBS check themselves online.
I Don't Know If I Need To Check
Knowing if a role requires a DBS check can sometimes be difficult to understand. Knowing which type of check you need to complete can also be the same.
That's what our dedicated team is here to help you with. We will discuss your needs and help you navigate the process and decide whether you need to submit a DBS check for the role or not.
How Do I Apply?
You need to complete a DBS check application form for each person you would like to check. Applications forms are not available digitally so please give our DBS team a call on 01282 433740 to request an application pack via post.
How Much Does It Cost?
The DBS check service is available to BPRCVS members. If you're not already a member we will support you to complete a membership application. Membership costs £15 per year.
Standard and enhanced DBS checks each cost £54* per application. Standard and enhanced checks for volunteers cost £16* per application. *includes a £16 admin fee for processing.
