Ensuring Social Prescribing Thrives Across The Whole Country

The National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP) is a national charity, founded in October 2019.
Our goal is to ensure social prescribing thrives across the whole country. We envision a vibrant, innovative, and ambitious movement. One that connects communities and mobilises hundreds of thousands of people. Each with a shared commitment to transforming lives.

  • We support the grassroots groups and national charities who offer socially prescribed activities.
  • We connect the health system to the incredible work that’s happening in communities.
  • We help medical professionals, including Social Prescribing Link Workers and students.
  • We work with leading researchers to build more evidence for social prescribing.
  • We develop effective new approaches to common problems.
  • And we champion social prescribing across the world.

We know that social prescribing plays an important role in preventing health problems, in combating loneliness and in making sure people get the practical support they need.
As we continue to mature as an organisation, we want to champion the people who make social prescribing thrive. And to make a lasting difference to communities and individuals across the country.

North West Regional Coordinator Lead

Christine Blythe, BPRCVS Chief Officer, is also the National Academy For Social Prescribing‘s Thriving Communities North West Regional Coordinator Lead.

Thriving Communities Programme

Thriving Communities is a network of thousands of people who work for grassroots voluntary sector organisations in England. These people ensure the vital work of social prescribing succeeds on a local level.

Social prescribing creates healthier, happier, and better-connected communities.

It can build a sense of belonging. And it can provide cost-effective support that really helps.

But here at NASP, we understand the challenges faced by local voluntary and community groups in delivering this vital work and in securing funding. What’s more, the cost-of-living crisis, in the aftermath of a pandemic, means the support your organisation offers is now more crucial than ever.

We recognise the incredible work you do for people in your community. We want to learn from you, to help you connect to other organisations and the health sector, and to improve the systems that support you.

In the face of challenges, we’re optimistic. Because we believe in grassroots voluntary organisations. And we know social prescribing can deliver real benefits to people and communities who are often excluded.

Thriving Communities In Your Region
