That may come as a surprise, but opportunist criminals will take advantage our desire to get out, relax or travel. This August, find out what the risks are and how you can protect yourself whether at home, or away. As always, this issue also has a host local news and special offers too. We hope you enjoy reading it. P.S. Don't forget to share with your neighbours or to pass on any advice that might help someone you know. Read on to find out more! We made the UK government rethink benefit cuts
Over the past few months, we’ve been campaigning tirelessly to prevent cuts to disability and sickness benefits, alongside disabled people, charities and MPs across the country. We called out the cuts on social media and in the news. We briefed and met with MPs. And over 2,300 Mind supporters emailed their MP. Sadly, we weren’t able to stop all the proposed cuts. But we achieved a lot. Faced with massive pressure, the UK government was forced to make significant changes to its proposals to get the Bill through parliament. In this newsletter, we’re sharing what happened. Welcome to our quarterly stakeholder newsletter, where we share key updates from our service and beyond. In this issue, you'll find:
Welcome to the Summer 2025 Think CO e-newsletter from the Gas Safe Charity. Summer has well and truly arrived in most parts of the UK over the last couple of weeks.
The season of Barbeques, Wimbledon, Women’s Euros, festivals, camping and holidays is well and truly with us. Though we have the boilers off and fires unused, CO is still a potential risk at this time of year. In your role as a CO aware worker or volunteer, you will be able to spot signs and take steps with your clients to ensure CO is risk is minimised. This month has been as busy as ever at Healthwatch Lancashire as we have announced our Phase 2 Disability, Transport and Accessibility project and travelled through the lakes to Carlisle for Summer Operations Day🔅

The document is 168 pages long, 148 of which contain mainly densely written content. This is a nuts-and-bolts summary of the paper, with a focus on the key themes relevant to the local VCSE sector and the role of Local Infrastructure and ICS-VCSE Alliances. Hello Neighbours,

Congratulations to our Hub of the Month in April, Techy Tea CIC. They truly amazed us with their positive energy and commitment to digital inclusion. Read more about their journey in this article. As a hub of the month they received a £100 Currys voucher and a shout out on our social media channels. It was great to see so many of you at the NAVCA conference a couple of weeks ago. These things are always a bit stressful to put on, but the buzz in the room, the relationships and connections that were built, and knowledge shared really did speak to the power of local infrastructure. If you missed it, there will be a summary report out soon.
One consistent thing we hear at conference is that members value space to think about the big issues which can not get enough time in our day to day working life. Climate change is a topic which often comes up – it's big and scary, what impact can we have anyway, and how do we know where to start? We are delighted to be working with Dr. Siobhan Laird, trustee lead for Environmental Sustainability at NAVCA member Voluntary Action Sheffield, to run a short carbon literacy training course, which will set you on the path or push you further along the path of making a difference. This really is something we all need to be focusing on, and this course gives an excellent, practical, focus to our actions. Volunteers Week next week is as ever a big part of our collective calendar. We have loved hearing how you focus on inclusive volunteering, and inspired by the action you have taken. See more below, with a guide pulling it all together to follow next week. I hope you have a great week, enjoy the activities you’re putting on, and celebrate volunteering in all its guises. Do tell us what your plans are. Finally, we want to share the sad news that Judy Robinson, who was NAVCA Chair until recently, died suddenly on Monday night. She was known to many from a long career in local infrastructure, and the voluntary and community sector, in the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, and nationally. She was an amazing woman who died in a place she loved with good friends. She was a powerful advocate of communities and social justice, she fought for what she believed in, with energy and commitment. She will be remembered by many. We will in the coming days think about how we can pay tribute to her, and all she achieved for the voluntary sector. |
