VCSE City Alliance: Working together for a brighter future for commissioning
As part of our VCSE City Alliance agreement with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the team at VAST has been delivering a series of workshops over the last six months, focused on procurement and commissioning. So far, these have enabled VCSE organisations to share their experiences of the council’s commissioning process and voice their hopes and aspirations for the future of local authority commissioning in the city.

The early outputs from this process have been the development of an early draft of a new grants policy by the council to add clarity to the grants process, and a workshop which took place to identify ways the council can ensure that commissioning processes are more accessible and equitable in the future.

The next session around commissioning for City Alliance members is on Wednesday 30th July at the Dudson Centre.

"It is an absolute pleasure to work with VAST and the VCSE sector in developing a series of workshops supporting the delivery of the Stoke-on-Trent City Alliance. I’m really excited about the opportunities that will flourish through being open and working more closely in partnership, lots to do, but I know we can do it together. A huge thank you to all involved!"
Shelley Brough, Director of Commissioning, Stoke-on-Trent City Council
Change is coming to the NHS

With the upcoming publication of a new 10-year Plan and the reorganisation of Integrated Care Boards across England, further NHS reform is nearly upon us and we know that many VCSE colleagues are uncertain about what this will mean for our own sector.

The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent VCSE Healthy Communities Alliance is supported by VAST together with our colleagues from Support Staffordshire, and by a team of elected sector representatives. There has never been a better time to become a member, and we will do our best to keep members informed about ongoing changes during our upcoming Forums.

Stoke-on-Trent Preventing and Managing Frailty Conference

On Monday 16th June at the King’s Hall, around 150 colleagues from Health and Local Government came together with representatives of 15 local VCSE organisations both large and small, to help shape the future of frailty-related services in the city.

While the overarching aim is to prevent hospital admissions and work more preventively, this gave VCSE organisations an early-stage opportunity to influence the way that new work is developed and coproduced, including the development of pilot work to take place in the north of the city.

If you missed out on the conference, but would like to be kept in the loop about opportunities to shape future planning for these services in the city, please drop Tom Pine, Strategic Liaison Officer, a line: [email protected].

State of The Sector survey

This summer, VAST is inviting local VCSEs to contribute their insights on the current challenges and opportunities that impact on their work in the city.

We want to enable like-for-like comparisons, and to give VCSEs, stakeholders, partners, funders and decision makers improved tools to form an informed picture of where our sector stands in a wider context.
