Looking to start a career in construction? Get your CSCS card with us!

29/9/2026

Lancashire Adult Learning have places available on our Construction Health and Safety courses which, on successful completion, enables students to gain their CSCS Labouring card.  The course is based at The Waterside Centre, St James Court West, Accrington, BB5 1NA and is delivered approximately every three weeks or more often throughout the academic year.

The course is delivered over 8 days - Tuesday to Friday for two weeks, plus an induction session a week before the course is due to start.

We have also teamed up with Fawkes & Reece, a market leading construction recruitment agency with access to the best jobs across the UK covering construction and civil engineering. On one of the course days a representative from Fawkes & Reece will attend to explain and provide advice about the opportunities they have available locally in the construction sector.
Once students have passed the tests we will apply for their green labouring CSCS card and this will be posted to them within three weeks. If learners are entitled to their blue skilled card we can also help with this (to get the blue card students usually have to have a minimum NVQ Level 2 qualification in a construction trade and need certificate evidence. The course timetable will also differ).

Conditions of the course:
  • The course including tests and card are FREE for students are unemployed and looking for work. It is also free for people who are working and earning less than £26,800pa. Students need to submit evidence of low income if they are claiming a fee waiver on that basis, this can be a contract of employment or wage slips from the previous three months.
  • Students will need good English and IT skills. Students will complete an English assessment at the induction session. If their English skills are not at the required level to join the course they will be given advice about English courses provided by the college to improve these skills.
  • For the tests, students will need to bring a form of photo ID, this is usually a passport or driving licence. This is a national requirement for all CITB tests centres. A full list of eligible Photo ID is provided in this link https://www.citb.co.uk/courses-tests/health-safety-and-environment-hse-test/booking-your-hse-test/hse-test-id-policy  If students have any problems providing this please ring me for more advice.
  • Students have to be aged 19 or over as of 31/08/26 to qualify to get the course for free. Funding is also be available for 18-year-olds if they are not currently in education or training.
  • Students with any unspent criminal convictions will have to be passed by our safeguarding team before they can attend their course. As part of the course enrolment process, students with any unspent convictions will complete an online declaration form providing details of their convictions and any probation worker they have. This form is assessed by our safeguarding team and the student will be contacted if/when they have been passed to attend.
