Friday 2 October 2026 | Burnley Football Club | 9:30am - 4pm With Friday 2 October getting closer, we're busy bringing together a day full of great conversations, new ideas, different perspectives and plenty of opportunities to meet people you might not usually cross paths with. Whether you're coming to learn something new, meet others working across different sectors, share experiences or simply step away from the usual working day and do something a little different, we want there to be something for everyone. And running through it all is this year's theme: connection. Here's a little more of what you can expect from the day... Diane Nicholson | The Power of Everyday Interactions: How Recognition Shapes Connection Diane will explore the small, everyday interactions that can make a much bigger difference than we realise, looking at how recognition, acknowledgement and feeling seen can help build trust, belonging and stronger relationships. Dave Scholes | Super Six Tips for Connected Conversations Founder of Six Connections, Dave is on a mission to spark 60 million positive mental health conversations. He'll be sharing practical tips to help us have better, more connected conversations in everyday life, including when conversations aren't always easy. Rebecca Bryant OBE | Prevention vs Enforcement: Which Builds Stronger Connections? Chief Executive of Resolve and Smile, Rebecca will bring her extensive experience in community safety and antisocial behaviour to explore prevention vs enforcement and what different approaches can mean for trust, relationships and connection within our communities. Afrasiab Anwar | Connecting Communities in Burnley Leader of Burnley Borough Council, Afrasiab will also be joining us, bringing his experience of community engagement and a local perspective on bringing people and communities together. What will you actually get from the day?🤷♀️We want the Smile Conference to be a day you can really get involved in, not just sit back and listen.
Throughout the day, you'll: • Hear practical ideas around communication, relationships and connection • Take part in interactive sessions and activities • Meet people working across different sectors and communities • Share ideas, experiences and different perspectives • Make connections outside of your usual network • Leave with useful ideas and conversations you can take back into your own work We've designed the day to make it easy to get involved, start conversations and meet new people naturally. Who is it for? One thing we really want to make clear is that you don't need to work in mediation to come along. In fact, that's kind of the point. We're bringing together people from businesses, social enterprises, housing, local authorities, charities, community organisations and beyond. Because some of the best conversations happen when we step outside our usual circles. The aim of the day? We want you to leave having met someone new, heard something useful, shared an idea, had a conversation you might not otherwise have had and made connections that continue long after the conference ends. That's what the Smile Conference 2026 is really about. 📅 Friday 2 October 2026 📍 Burnley Football Club 🎟️ FREE to attend So, is it worth giving up a Friday for? We think so. Comments are closed.
