DCMS have published the findings of a 12 month research project, carried out in 2024 on Local Civil Society Infrastructure [LCSI]. The purpose of the research was to develop the evidence base on LCSI in England by identifying the positive impacts of effective LCSI, the negative impacts of its absence and the conditions and approaches for building effective LCSI in areas where it is weak or non-existent. The synthesis report is extensive and presents an incredibly complex and nuanced picture of LCSI. This first briefing for NAVCA members offers an overview of the main findings. Further briefings and resources will be produced as the findings are unpacked further.
This newsletter provides you with the headlines and implications. A full briefing can be read here. A public blog is available here. Ahead of the school holidays, we have been in contact with Burnley FC in the Community to arrange for them to come down to Burnleywood Park to put on a football session for the kids.
For those of you who were there and remember, we did this last year and it was a huge success, with multiple requests to do it again! All are welcome, the more the merrier, so please pass this on to your friends, relatives, kids, schools, your auntie's sister-in-laws guinea pig, anyone who may be interested! In your role as a CO aware worker or volunteer, you will be able to spot signs and take steps with your clients to ensure CO is risk is minimised. This study of voluntary and community organisations, social enterprises, cooperatives, societies and amateur sport clubs (sometimes called the 'third sector'. 'voluntary sector, or 'civil society sector') started in 2010 and it takes place every three years.
We've been building a picture of how organisations and groups work, what they achieve and how they feel about their future. This helps policy makers, funding bodies and CVSs to make good decisions on how to support the voluntary sector. Whether your organisation is large or small, thriving, struggling or just going along as normal - we need to hear from you. It's interesting and only takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, has invested £130,253 into preventing crime and anti-social behaviour this summer through his Community Fund—using money seized from criminals to support ‘Safer Streets Summer’.
Schemes across different areas of Lancashire will deliver targeted interventions during the summer holiday period, utilising money seized from criminals being put back into the communities they have impacted. A total of 46 local schemes across Lancashire have been awarded funding up to £3,000 to deliver targeted interventions during the summer holidays. These short-term projects aim to engage young people and reduce the risk of offending during a time when anti-social behaviour typically increases. Yesterday, the government published its 10 Year Health Plan. We've summarised the paper for NAVCA members, and we encourage you to share this with your networks.
The document is 168 pages long, 148 of which contain mainly densely written content. This is a nuts-and-bolts summary of the paper, with a focus on the key themes relevant to the local VCSE sector and the role of Local Infrastructure and ICS-VCSE Alliances. Hello Neighbours,

Leadership and Advocacy
Jump to section: Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, is launching a county-wide survey to hear directly from women and girls about the key issues affecting their safety.
Tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a top priority in the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan. While crime data offers valuable insights into reported offences, this survey aims to uncover under-reported experiences and understand the reasons why some incidents go unreported to the police or other organisations. In today’s newsletter, we share an update on our anti-poverty work in Lancashire. We also reflect on the first year of this government, and Policy in Practice outline new findings on Universal Credit deductions.
Please find below a statement on the future of Healthwatch, accompanied by our 2024 - 2025 annual report and future work plan.
We are encouraging local businesses and organisations to THINK CARER.
The 2021 Census found that 2.8 million people are juggling work and care across the UK, while Carers UK found that, on average, 600 people per DAY quit work because of a lack of support to juggle work and care. We’re excited to bring you another round of stories and updates that shine a light on the people, projects, and partnerships driving positive change in our communities.
As well as our usual news, this month’s newsletter features stories recognising the impact of small charities for Small Charities week, the work of LGBTQ+ organisations for Pride Month and articles from our Mental Health Week campaign. |
