Commissioner seeks views from Lancashire women and girls

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, is launching a county-wide survey to hear directly from women and girls about the key issues affecting their safety.

Tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a top priority in the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan. While crime data offers valuable insights into reported offences, this survey aims to uncover under-reported experiences and understand the reasons why some incidents go unreported to the police or other organisations.
Commissioner Grunshaw said: “We know that women and girls are disproportionately affected by domestic abuse, sexual offences, and everyday misogyny - such as unwanted comments and inappropriate behaviour. This is completely unacceptable. We must do more to ensure that women and girls not only are safe, but also feel safe - whether at work, on public transport, or during a night out.

“I want to hear directly from women and girls in Lancashire about the issues that impact their sense of safety. The insights gathered will be used to drive meaningful change.

“Later this year, I’ll bring together senior leaders from partner organisations, including local councils, to share the findings and explore how we can work collaboratively to address the issues raised. By pooling our resources and efforts, we can make Lancashire a safer place for all women and girls.

“An independent research company has been commissioned to conduct the survey and run focus groups, including with professionals working in the night-time economy, such as security staff.

“The information we gather will help us build a comprehensive picture of the challenges women and girls face and guide our efforts to make real improvements across the county.
“I urge all women and girls in Lancashire to take part in the survey - and encourage others to do the same. Your voice matters. By sharing your experiences, you can help shape a safer future for everyone.”

The survey can be completed online. The link is also available via the Commissioner's website - lancashire-pcc.gov.uk
