Thank you for fighting for mental health in 2024As we leave 2024 behind us, we want to take a moment to celebrate all of the great things we've achieved together in the fight for mental health. Thank you for being part of our community of Mind supporters and for an incredible year of campaigning. Access to mental health services Early in the year, we got our first big win! After years of campaigning, the previous UK government announced extra funding for 24 early support hubs. These hubs will help more young people get early mental health support and advice in their community. During the general election, the current UK government also made a commitment to ‘provide open access mental health services for children and young people in every community’ through it’s new Young Future’s Programme. While this new initiative brings us one step closer to making sure that every young person can access an early support hub when they need it, we will keep pushing to ensure that it keeps mental health front and centre of the hubs model. And just last month, 1000s of you liked, shared and commented on our multiple posts on social media calling on PM Keir Starmer and Health Minister Wes Streeting to protect the Mental Health Investment Standard (MHIS). Thank you! We've now heard reassurance from the Department for Health and Social Care that the UK government won't be cutting back vital mental health services. Getting mental health on the agenda 💙Ahead of the general election, we launched our No Mind Left Behind campaign, which set out the first steps the next UK government needed to take to prioritise mental health. Over 2000 of you emailed your local candidates during the election to ask them to prioritise mental health. Many of you also made sure your candidates understood how important mental health is by downloading our questions to your phone wallet and asking your candidates to answer them on the doorstep and at hustings. Your engagement has helped us establish relationships with many new MPs. And this World Mental Health Day, nearly 8000 of you supported our call to the UK government to make mental health a priority! Over 300 of our supporters also fed into our submission to the UK government’s 10-year health plan consultation. This will help make sure that mental health is seen as a priority. Our survey has closed, but you can still share your thoughts through the UK government's Change NHS portal. Take the UK government's survey When the newly elected Labour government came into power, it was announced in the King’s Speech that they would reform the outdated Mental Health Act. This is a huge win after years of campaigning by so many of you. The Mental Health Bill is now going through the House of Lords, and we look forward to campaigning with you as it enters the House of Commons. Some of our supporters fed into the Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB) investigation into patient safety in mental health hospitals across England. You helped us call for this independent investigation as part of our Raise the Standard campaign, and we’ve been working closely with HSSIB since to ensure your lived experience is central to the investigation. HSSIB published three reports last year following their investigation, with more to come this year. These reports are an important first step in addressing the crisis in our mental health hospitals.
