Happy New Year! In 2024, we saw communities across the country stepping up to take meaningful action for people, climate and nature, uniting to build a greener, fairer future. While the start of a new year can often feel daunting, we know that by coming together, we can be a powerful catalyst for change. This year, we’ll be sharing more opportunities to take action together. To help get things started, I thought I would share some funding opportunities, new resources, and things you can do to take action for people, climate and nature this January. Yes we CAN pass the Climate and Nature Act Many of our members have been working tirelessly on The Climate and Nature bill as it progresses through Parliament. In October last year, communities across the UK also worked to rally support for the bill through conversations and finding common ground with their MPs, with many showing support for the bill. Together, we’ve achieved so much. The bill is now at a crucial stage - its second reading on Friday 24 January 2025 - and we need your help to ensure at least 102 MPs attend the second reading and vote in support of the CAN Bill to ensure it continues to the next (committee) stage. We cannot afford to see the CAN Bill fall - and nor can our families, our communities, or our planet. Will you head to action.zerohour.uk and write to your MP, today, asking them to vote for the CAN Bill in January? USE THE TEMPLATE TO WRITE TO YOUR MP TODAY Meet your decision makers: New resources and guidance We often hear MPs say they don’t hear enough from their constituents about climate and nature. This year, we’ll be providing opportunities for you to engage your local politicians, but we also have support available to help you get in touch with them all year round! A constant drumbeat of communication from constituents will show our decision makers that we want to see climate and nature a top priority for them throughout the year. VISIT THE UNITED FOR PEOPLE, CLIMATE AND NATURE HUB With the widespread dropping temperatures and rising energy bills, we know that millions of us are facing a tough winter. But Warm This Winter has been working on something to start the new year on a hopeful note, and we’d love for you to be involved.
‘Warm This Winter Wednesdays’ run by the Warm This Winter campaign, is an invitation to come together with your community and discuss how to take action on the energy crisis, whilst keeping each other company in warm space. Whether it’s through coffee mornings, cross-stitch circles, or meetings with local politicians, events taking place across the UK this winter will also be a way to show what is important to us. If you want to host your own Warm This Winter Wednesday event, or find one to attend, you can access more information about how you can get involved here.
