Listen to your body. Act now on cancer
Launching Lancashire and South Cumbria’s Cancer Awareness Campaign
Help us to spread the word.  Lancashire and South Cumbria’s Cancer Alliance is asking you to help improve the early detection and effective treatment of cancer.  We want you to help launch our latest cancer awareness campaign as part of the vision to improve the earlier diagnosis of cancer. It aims to encourage people to talk about cancer, check for symptoms, and act early by contacting their GP and completing eligible cancer screenings. The simple act of encouraging this will save lives.
The campaign is based on research carried out across the region with real people.  It is designed to get attention, encourage action and improve lives.
1. Campaign Overview
  • Campaign Name: Check it, don’t chance it. Listen to your body – Act Now on Cancer
  • Objective: Encourage early presentation of cancer symptoms by promoting awareness of key signs and urging people to see their GP if symptoms persist.
  • Duration: Launching with a burst of activity between 12th January 2026 – 9th March 2026, the campaign will run for 3 months.
  • Target Audience: Adults in Lancashire and South Cumbria; people who tend to delay presentation or assume symptoms aren’t serious; underserved communities and high-inequality neighbourhoods.

2. Key Campaign Messages
  • Listen to your body. Act now on cancer.
  • Symptoms featured:
    • Lump on body
    • Pain that won’t go away
    • Blood in poo
    • Blood in pee
    • Unexplained weight loss
  • Seek help straight away, “Your doctor will want to see you.”

3. Campaign Assets
We have worked with a behavioural change organisation, Magpie to produce a range of asset that can be used to promote this campaign. These can be used to engage with your colleagues and networks.  Please include items in your newsletter, share and post these messages on your social media channels, put posters up on noticeboards.  Indeed, please do anything you can to share the messages!
Resources can be found here: www.actoncancer.co.uk/checkit/jointhecampaign

4. What can you do to help share the campaign?
We would love to hear how you make use of these assets.  Please let us know if there are other items which will help you to share the message.
  • Share the social media posts across your groups and communities
  • Put the campaigns posters up in your public facing areas.
  • Share the leaflets with the public
  • Talk about the signs and symptoms in the campaign and encourage people to visit their doctors if they have symptoms.
  • Encourage people to visit ActOnCancer.co.uk/checkit for further information.
