Applications Open – Burnley Summer HAF “Fun, Food and Friends” Programme

8/5/2025

Applications are now open for the Burnley Summer Fun, Food and Friends programme. This initiative is part of Burnley’s Holiday Activities with Food (HAF) programme, supporting the delivery of holiday camps during the summer holidays.

Applications for Summer 2025 are now open.
Applicants will need to complete both an application form and provider statement.
Please read the grant scoring criteria before completing your application.
Please note that applications for HAF are becoming more popular. Therefore, if you have provided activities before please do not assume we know this. All details of your provision must be included fully in the application form particularly PART C.
Guidance for HAF is available here:

  • Organisations must be based in Burnley and / or are working with Burnley’s residents
  • Funding is available for revenue spend – delivery and/or equipment
  • There is no limit on the amount of funding that can be applied for
  • We encourage partners and schools to work together to share delivery
  • Minimum delivery timescales are 4 hours per day x 4 days per week x 1 week
  • Each day there needs to be a minimum of 1 hour of physical activity within the programme
  • Applications will be assessed on quality, value for money and location
  • Applicants can apply for funding for multiple projects in different locations
The aim of the programme is to make free places available to children eligible for benefits-related free school meals for the equivalent of at least 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, for 6 weeks. The HAF programme needs to cover 1 week at Easter, 4 weeks in the Summer and 1 week’s of provision in the Christmas holidays.
School holidays can be particular pressure points for some families because of increased costs (such as food and childcare) and reduced incomes. For some children that can lead to a holiday experience gap, with children from disadvantaged families:
  • less likely to access organised out-of-school activities
  • more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health
  • more likely to experience social isolation
Free holiday clubs are a response to this issue and evidence suggests that they can have a positive impact on children and young people and that they work best when they:
  • provide consistent and easily accessible enrichment activities
  • cover more than just breakfast or lunch
  • involve children (and parents) in food preparation
