Announcement of proposed sites for new hospitals in Lancashire The NHS in Lancashire and South Cumbria is pleased to announce the locations of two new potential sites for brand new hospitals to replace Royal Preston Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The proposed site for the replacement of Royal Preston Hospital is land between Stanifield Lane and Wigan Road, south of Stoney Lane in Farington, near to the end of the M65 West. The proposed site for the replacement Royal Lancaster Infirmary is Bailrigg East, situated north of, and in close proximity to, Lancaster University. The new hospitals will be designed and built to the national ‘Hospital 2.0’ guidelines and will be state-of-the-art, net-zero-carbon facilities. Both hospitals will be digitally enabled, providing the latest in healthcare technology and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. This development will not only enhance the environment for both patients and staff but will also ensure we are well-prepared for the future of healthcare delivery, allowing us the opportunity to design hospitals that are fit for the needs of our future population, based on local data and clinical expertise. No decisions have yet been made; the final decision regarding the hospital site locations will be subject to a full public consultation process at a later date, ensuring that all views are considered before we move forward with our proposals. The programme is currently in the pre-consultation engagement stage of the process regarding both of the New Hospital Programme schemes in Lancashire and South Cumbria. The programme is committed to exploring all options, and any alternative site suggestions that could also meet the needs of the new facilities are welcomed. The existing hospitals will remain in operation and delivering services until the new facilities are operational.
