Burnley Working Wild has seen 6 programmes of Lancashire Wildlife Trust's innovative and transformational “Wildworks” programme of nature-based employability course throughout the town. The courses give participants an introduction to volunteering and working in the environmental sector. All participants involved gain practical skills, and also receive targeted support in applying and interviewing for training and employment if they wish to join the green sector. You don't have to be looking for work though, the sessions also provide an environment to improve wellbeing and resilience through contact with nature. Accredited training is also offered as part of the sessional delivery. Join us for our final session at The CVS Centre! Lancashire Wildlife Trust was especially excited to be able to offer the last block of sessions at our base at The CVS Centre where we have had an office for over 25 years. There is a courtyard garden at the Centre, which had become a bit neglected. We have been running Wildlife Gardening sessions here since February with activities such as hazel coppicing, creating a dead hedge, and opening up areas to sunlight with the aim of encouraging wildlife. Participants have learned new green skills and gained certificates. It's also really nice for us to make the garden area more pleasant for users of The CVS Centre - staff, volunteers and visitors - to sit outside in a moment of calm and watch the birds, bees, and butterflies in their new homes! We once saw a hummingbird hawkmoth on the lavender, it would be great to have them back again! Joel who has been delivering Burnley Working Wild also offers his own top tips and advice on applying for Green Jobs. Using his journey from volunteer to trainee to Project Officer he has lots of experience of applications and interviews - and can help you frame your experience and skills in the best way. For those not looking for employment, we have lots of links with other green organisations in Burnley and Padiham, and can help you find a local volunteer position or nature activity that works for you. Our last session at The CVS Centre will be on Saturday 15th March from 10am - 1pm, run by Joel and Kim. This final session will have a bit of a bird theme; we will be making a couple of bird boxes, some bird feeders, and one of the volunteers is bringing along a bird box he has made at home. Sessions are free and we provide all tools and equipment as well as refreshments.
