The Great Get Together (20-22 June 2025) is the UK’s annual celebration of everything that unites our communities, inspired by Jo Cox’s belief that we have more in common than that which divides us. We hope you’re considering organising a Great Get Together this June, because community events that bring people together feel more needed than ever. Research has shown that events help build positive connections and this is especially true when part of a national movement, such as the Great Get Together.
Events that encourage connections between people do not need to be huge undertakings. ☕ Smaller gatherings that help lower boundaries between neighbours can be as effective in bridging divides as larger scale activities. If the idea of organising something from scratch doesn't appeal, you might consider helping an existing local event to welcome people who might not usually come. In the coming weeks we’ll be sharing resources, including details of how to register on a national Great Get Together map. In the meantime, a few things that might help and inspire you… The 2024 Great Get Together Impact Report highlights a few events, such as a walk in the Malvern Hills and a creative session in West Belfast. The Unlocking Connection report contains seven tips for how to make your event really effective at supporting people to connect And our friends at Civil Society Consulting produced 32 Steps to Togetherness, which includes practical actions to build connections within and between communities.
