Events - Duke of Lancs Parade - Event details and road closures

The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment has announced it will parade through Burnley on Tuesday 8th July 2025, as part of a series of Freedom Parades taking place across the North West. 
The parade in Burnley will mark the Regiment’s Freedom of the Borough a ceremonial honour that reflects the town’s long-standing relationship with the Regiment and recognition of their service at home and abroad.  
The event will include serving soldiers in ceremonial uniform, a military band and soldiers carrying the Regiment’s ceremonial colours, offering the public a chance to witness this proud tradition and show support for the Armed Forces. 
Parade Route and Timings The parade will begin at 12pm from St Peter’s Church, Church St, Burnley, BB11 2DL and proceed to Burnley Football Club (Turf Moor) for a private reception. 
Road Closures To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, the following roads will be closed temporarily during the event: Close to vehicles between 11:00 and 13:00 on Tuesday 8th July 2025 the following sections of road:
  • Church Street, Burnley for its entire length.
  • Yorkshire Street, Burnley from its junction with Church Street to its
  • junction with Todmorden Road.
  • Harry Potts Way for its entire length.
  • Un-named road to the side of 114 Brunshaw Road, Burnley for its entire length.
  • Centenary Way, Burnley from its junction with Red Lion Street to its junction with Yorkshire Street.
  • Todmorden Road, Burnley from its junction with Helena Street to its junction with Yorkshire Street.
  • Belvedere Road, Burnley from its junction with Blakey Street to it junction with Yorkshire Street.
  • Higgin Street, Burnley from its junction with Prescott Street to it junction with Harry Potts Way.
  • Brunshaw Road, Burnley from its junction with Mitella Street to its junction with Harry Potts Way.
  • Ormerod Road, Burnley from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Shorey Bank.
  • Prohibit parking and loading/unloading on the above-mentioned sections of road between 08:00 and 13:00 on Tuesday 8th July 2025
Residents and visitors are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow diversion signs in place during the closure period. 
The Mayor of Burnley, Cllr Paul Reynolds, said: 
“It is a tremendous honour to welcome The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment to Burnley. Their parade through Burnley is a chance for local people to show their appreciation for the service and dedication of the Regiment. It promises to be a memorable day for our community.” 
Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier Rob Singleton said:  
“The Regiment has long and close associations with the Borough of Burnley which were marked by the granting of its Freedom in 2013. We cherish these links and it is, therefore, a great honour and a privilege for us to exercise our Freedom by marching through Burnley on 8th July 2025.”
