Briercliffe Parish Council is seeking volunteers. We are looking for those with an interest in history. We have lots (and we mean lots) of old documents that need scanning and uploading to our online storage system. This will be archive work; we need to preserve these documents as a historical record. It is part of the Parish Council’s mission to preserve and share the social history of our area. By digitising this history, we are preserving social history and making it accessible. Most of the documents are held in beautiful binders and are hand written, we would like to preserve them to put them on the website as a public record. The documents may include; old allotment records, minutes of meetings, financial records.
One binder at a time will be delivered to you and can be completed in your own time. An A4 printer bed scanner will be too small for some of these documents. Therefore, you would need a mobile phone with a scanning app or similar device. Volunteers will also be given access to the online storage system to upload them. On completion of each binder, I will then collect and return to our archives. Please note that the binders are in a dusty and fragile condition, care would needed to ensure the preservation of these records. For all volunteers that work with the Parish Council we would be delighted to provide you with a working reference and acknowledge your contribution on the website.
