What is MECC MECC (Make Every Contact Count) is a training programme aimed at using everyday interactions as opportunities to improve health and wellbeing, allowing each of us to play a part in making a difference. There is overwhelming evidence that changing people’s health related behaviour can have a major impact on some of the main causes of premature mortality and morbidity. Health and care/social care organisations in particular, have significant potential to encourage, inform and enable people to make decisions that may enhance their health and well‐being. A MECC conversation is a very brief intervention – no specific knowledge or expertise about the subject area is required. However, staff/colleagues who deliver more intensive interventions as part of their everyday roles can also use a MECC approach. Who is a MECC course/session aimed at
MECC can benefit everyone, it is not restricted to one person, profession or organisation. MECC training is however ideal for frontline non-specialist staff working in primary and community care settings. This includes those working in: Social prescribing, GP surgeries Health and social care, School nursing, Community pharmacy, District nursing, Health visiting, Emergency services, Allied health professions etc. Most commonly a lifestyle issue will be about encouraging individuals to:
However, if a contact is to really count, the focus should be on the individual and their needs. This may involve lifestyle areas such as e.g. sexual health or being immunised It could also involve ensuring individuals can access services to support the wider determinants of health, such as housing or financial support, which may be barriers to making a healthy lifestyle choice. MECC 1 –Day TTT (Train the Trainer) - Face to Face – (Course to enable colleagues to deliver MECC across their own teams/organisation/communities) 18th February 2025 – 09.30 – 4.30pm – Business Development Centre, Blackburn 27th February 2025 – 09.30 – 4.30pm – Blackpool Football Club, Blackpool 19th March 2025 – 09.30 – 4.30pm – Corpus Christi High School, Preston 90 min MECC Familiarisation Session – via Teams - (Session for those who would like to know what MECC is about. Sessions are all the same content) Tuesday 25th March 2025 09.00 – 10.30am via Teams Tuesday 25th March 2025 11.00 – 12.30pm via Teams Tuesday 25th March 2025 13.30 – 15.00pm via Teams 2.5 hour MECC for Physical Activity Session – via Teams – (Session is aimed at anybody interested in looking to support physical activity conversations in the workplace or community.
