MECC (Make Every Contact Count) is a training programme aimed at using everyday interactions as opportunities to improve health and wellbeing, allowing each of us to play a part in making a difference. There is overwhelming evidence that changing people’s health related behaviour can have a major impact on some of the main causes of premature mortality and morbidity. Health and care/social care organisations in particular, have significant potential to encourage, inform and enable people to make decisions that may enhance their health and well‐being. A MECC conversation is a very brief intervention – no specific knowledge or expertise about the subject area is required. However, staff/colleagues who deliver more intensive interventions as part of their everyday roles can also use a MECC approach. A range of online ESOL classes, ESOL classes in Burnley, and employment support for refugees and resettlers are available.
