Check out what Good Things have been up to - news, network meet-up, and other events!

18/9/2025

Good Things Foundation update - what have we been up to.
Picture
Here’s a quick round-up of what we’ve been working on recently to drive digital inclusion forward:
  • Putting digital inclusion at the heart of policy - We’ve outlined our latest policy asks ahead of party conference season, calling on the UK Government to bake in, not bolt on digital inclusion across public services, with sustainable funding and long-term vision. Read the policy asks
  • Fresh perspectives on our board - We’ve welcomed two new trustees, Conor Rose and Dan Zinkin, who bring expertise in digital strategy, data, and transformation. Their insight will strengthen our support for the sector and ensure the voice of community organisations remains central to our mission. Meet our new board members
  • Growing the National Device Bank - With support from BT Group, Nokia UK, and others, we’ve now redistributed over 20,000 devices to people who need them most. The launch of the IT Reuse for Good Charter and Playbook provides practical tools that organisations can use to embed device reuse in their own work. See how the Device Bank is scaling
  • Linking digital skills with active lives - Our new research with Sport England shows that digital exclusion and barriers to physical activity often go hand in hand. This opens up opportunities for organisations to collaborate with sport and leisure partners to support people’s wellbeing alongside their digital confidence. Explore the research
Network Meet Up: Get Online Week 2025
Join us for our September Meet Up, where our CEO and founder Helen Milner OBE will be talking about the power of Get Online Week. We will share the latest news about the campaign and facilitate a discussion. There will be plenty of space for you to talk to other digital inclusion hubs about your plans for the week, share tips and inspiration!
These informal and friendly meet-ups are designed for you to connect with and learn from others who share a passion for digital inclusion. There is no need to have attended a meet up before – just come along and enjoy the company!
📅22nd September Network Meet up: Get Online Week 2025 11am-12:30pm

Accenture AI Discovery Exchange Workshop - join us in Manchester
We still have a few places remaining for our next free in-person AI Discovery Exchange workshop, with our strategic partner Accenture in Manchester. This is a fantastic opportunity for members of our network who are keen to learn more about AI and how to support service users with it! The workshop is designed to equip hubs with the knowledge and confidence to support their beneficiaries with generative AI.
The workshop will take place on Wednesday 24 September 10am-3.30pm at Accenture’s Manchester office. Good Things will cover reasonable travel expenses.

Windows 10 is ending support in October

If you are still using the Windows 10 operating system, it is important to know that Microsoft will stop providing security support and updates after 14 October 2025. After this date, Windows 10 will still work but PCs will be less protected and vulnerable to hackers.
If your PC is compatible, you can upgrade to Windows 11 for free. Some PCs will not be able to upgrade. If this is the case, there are some options available including converting to ChromeOS Flex or extending your Windows 10 licence for 12 months.

For more information and an overview of the options you can read this article by Which?
