The Volunteer Community Transport Service

Communicars is a community transport service operated by BPRCVS.

The service uses volunteer drivers and their own cars to transport passengers. Communicars transports elderly, disabled and infirm people who are unable to access public transport.

Communicars passengers use the service for a wide range of journeys.
Here’s some of the most common journeys we do on a regular basis:
Doctor & dental appointments
Lunch clubs
Attending local groups & activities
Shopping & trips into town
Visiting family and friends
Collecting pensions
And much more*

*We are unable to accommodate hospital appointments.

Communicars operates throughout Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale with passengers able to travel locally.

Communicars offers a door-to-door service that can transport up to 3 passengers on any given journey.

Passenger safety is paramount; we strictly check all insurance and MOT documents before recruiting volunteer drivers. All drivers are fully trained and also subject to a DBS check to further ensure passenger safety.

How To Book A Communicar

Journeys with Communicars are available Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
You can book your journey by calling the Communicars dispatch on 01282 412096.

Phone lines are open between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for bookings. We operate an answer machine service so passengers are encouraged to leave a booking message if calling after 2 p.m.

We advise passengers to book their journeys approximately a week in advance. This allows us time to contact our volunteer drivers and confirm their availability for your journey. Communicars dispatch will always contact you to inform whether your booking has been accepted or not.

Passengers must register with Communicars prior to using the service. Passengers can call the booking line to register with the service.

How Much Will Communicars Cost Me?

Only 45p per mile

Prices are charged per journey and not per passenger.
Your volunteer driver will calculate the journey's cost and inform you of what to pay at the end of the journey.

Passengers are asked to bring enough small change to cover the cost of the journey as our volunteer drivers do not carry large amounts of change with them.
Please note: Communicars is a very low cost service specifically designed for, and available to, those who cannot access public transport. Communicars is not a taxi service. Passengers found to be abusing the service and goodwill of the volunteer drivers will be excluded from the service and unable to use it again.

How Do I Give The Gift Of A Lift
& Turn Miles Into Smiles?

If you would like to volunteer for Communicars and become a driver for the service, we're always interested in hearing from new drivers in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.
All you need to do is give Communicars a call on 01282 412096 or email communicars@bprcvs.co.uk
