🎉 Your August Camerados Newsletter is Here – Movement Mischief and more!🎉 Hello, lovely movement folk! It's been a hot one, and Camerados all around the world have been seizing every opportunity to come together in the sunshine. Public Living Rooms have been popping up at festivals, parks, and community spaces near and far. Not even the Atlantic Ocean is a barrier! Some folk have even been travelling overseas to visit each other. Wow! Look at us go! Our movement is flourishing. We've seen a surge of new Public Living Rooms in both the USA and the UK. In the face of global challenges, it's heartening to see people finding mutual support, connection, and joy through our movement. And every single Public Living Room exists because our wonderful movement is sharing stories, spreading the word, and inspiring others. Thanks to Camerados like YOU, our movement is thriving, with more Public Living Rooms in more neighbourhoods than ever before. Hooray! Have you joined one of our events yet? Now's your chance! We have some exciting goings-on coming up for everyone in the movement to get involved in and we REALLY want you to come. We're excited to invite you to our annual virtual campfire on Friday, September 26th at 7 PM, where movement folk from around the world gather for an evening of stories, camaraderie, and maybe a few marshmallows! If you'd like to participate in an activity at the campfire, please don't hesitate to let us know. We love hearing your ideas and would love to have you get involved. If not, feel free to come along for the company; that's fine too. Register for the online campfire Have your say at Open House! Don't miss our Open House on Thursday, September 11th, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. It's the perfect way to get involved with the movement, have your say and share your ideas! Catch up with old friends and meet new people from around the world. This time we'll be discussing the following question: Strawberry plants: how do we grow camerados where we live? What do you think? You can register below to come along. Register for Open House Camerados' Ketchup' at the Eastmont Tomato Festival 🍅 Our wonderful Camerado friends in Virginia hosted a Public Living Room right in the heart of the Eastmont Tomato Festival, and what a magical day it was! Here's Lisa sharing the magic in her own words: "What a day at the Eastmont Tomato Festival! We set up our Public Living Room right in the heart of the festival, and wow, did it fill up with joy. From toddlers to folks in their 80s, and even a few friendly pups, the space was alive with laughter, connection, and curiosity. Game pieces flew (tossed by tiny hands), dogs lounged peacefully, and a harpist played a beautiful soundtrack to it all. Strangers became friends, conversations flowed, and even with folks from all walks of life and different beliefs, not a single note of conflict was heard. Just kindness. Just community. Just Camerados." It's fair to say there's a lot of outspoken division in the USA right now, and we know that people - including elected officials - from across the political spectrum stopped by the PLR during the Tomato festival, yet people reported nothing but warm conversation and an appreciation from all sides that a Public Living Room was a mighty fine thing that every neighbourhood needs. Isn't that great?! Visitor Books - what's inside yours? A while ago, we sent out visitor books to Public Living Rooms, and we're curious! Have you put yours out yet? What's written inside? A funny doodle, an interesting quote, something that made you laugh out loud or tear up a bit? We'd love to hear it. Please send us a snapshot of a page or share a little quote; we'll feature some of them on our social media and on Mighty Networks so that everyone can enjoy them. Who is doing brilliant stuff in their community? Each month we're going to tell you about other folk out there in the world doing brilliant stuff in their communities. This month it's the Warm Welcome Campaign. Across the UK, 14.4 million people live in poverty, and 7% of the population experience chronic loneliness. Loneliness is one of the most prevalent crises of our times. The Warm Welcome Campaign aims to turn the tide on loneliness and poverty by connecting communities and providing people with a sense of belonging in a Warm Welcome Space located close to home. By working together, we can unlock the power of community spaces made by and for everyone, creating a thriving network of hope and reconnection fueled by human warmth. Their Impact Report for the year 2024-25 shows 68% of people now live within 30 minutes of a warm space, up from 62% last year. 2.6 million people visited Warm Welcome Spaces in the past year. Find your local Warm Welcome Space September Challenge: Celebrate 10 Years of Camerados with Chalk! Can you believe it? It's already time for our September challenge, and it's time to get your chalk out, as the next challenge is to draw the letter "C" with chalk on the pavement in your community.
You can draw on the path outside your house, over the driveway, across playgrounds, down alleyways, up steps or around benches! Feeling daring? Try curving your "C" around a lamp post or leaving a trail of "C" s for neighbours to follow to your Public Living Room. Snap a photo of your masterpiece and share it with us on social media with the hashtag #CameradosIs10. Comments are closed.
