 Welcome to this fortnight's NAVCA member newsletter. I’ve spoken to a few members over the last week or two and the overriding reflection seems to be “it's definitely summer, the weather tells me so. But it's sooo busy!”. Whether it's because colleagues are away and there is work to pick up, or bids to be written, or key meetings to be speaking at, August has felt like a busy month. And as we enter AGM season, I'd love you to join us at the NAVCA AGM to hear about what we have been up to over the past year, and what is next for the network. Please do book your place and come along. We'll be sharing our annual report and accounts, and we're also looking for one new Trustee to join the Board. We're particularly keen to bring fresh perspectives and diverse experience to our governance, especially from people involved in volunteering and capacity building. Good Finance - learn more about social investment Are you considering social investment for your organisation? Join NAVCA and Good Finance to explore what social investment is, whether it's the right option for you, and what your next steps are. This event will take place on Wednesday 30th September, 2pm - 3pm. Book your place here. Responding to the changing political landscape - NAVCA member meeting Join NAVCA members to discuss what you're seeing in your local areas, including working with new Reform-led councils, supporting community cohesion, working in partnership, and more. This is a supportive space for all NAVCA members to share your challenges and bring your questions. This meeting will take place on Wednesday 7th October, 11am - 12pm. Book your place here. Cyber risk and resilience: what recent events mean for charities Recent incidents involving a popular fundraising CRM and a charity bank have provided the charity sector with two very different reminders of how organisations are dependent on technology and external providers. One involved the potential loss of information. The other involved the loss of access to an essential service. Together they demonstrate an important point: a charity does not have to directly be the victim of a cyber incident to experience the consequences of interruption via third party providers. Volunteering for Health resources, webinar, and bulletinVolunteering for Health is a national programme being delivered in partnership between NHS England, NHS Charities Together and CW+ to explore how volunteering can become a more integrated and strategic part of health and care. Across 15 partnerships in England, organisations are building shared infrastructure, strengthening cross-sector relationships and developing new approaches to volunteering. The programme is generating valuable learning about how volunteering can contribute to some of the biggest challenges facing health and care, from supporting neighbourhood health and prevention to strengthening the workforce and improving the experiences of patients and communities. New resources The new Volunteering for Health: Learning into Action Guides bring learning from the project together, translating the experience of the 15 partnerships into practical recommendations and ideas for leaders across health, local authorities and VCSE organisations. They explore five areas: • Embedding volunteering within neighbourhood health • Developing the healthcare workforce through volunteering • Training and development for volunteer managers • Developing volunteer passporting across partners • Diversifying volunteering opportunities to widen participation Volunteering for Health bulletin The bulletin will be sent every two months and will keep stakeholders connected to learning, insights and opportunities from across the programme. Sign up here. Upcoming webinar Can we afford to overlook the value of volunteering? How systems can reach and engage underserved communities - Wednesday 16 September | 12:00-12:50 This session will explore innovative ways of engaging underserved communities, removing barriers to participation, and creating volunteering opportunities that better reflect local communities. Through real-world examples and shared learning, attendees will gain practical insights into how inclusive volunteering can help tackle health inequalities and improve outcomes across health, care and VCSE sectors. Register for the webinar here. Policy Rewiring the state - what it means for the VCFSE sector Rewiring the state - what are the implications for the VCFSE sector? Every area of England will have some form of devolution by the end of 2028. This means that decisions about skills, training, post-16 education, support for young people, employment support, transport and housing will be taken outside Whitehall. The VCFSE sector is an integral part of these public services, so now is the time to start building relationships and gathering evidence about the outcomes and impact of work by VCFSE organisations. New government: opportunities for the VCFSE sector As Prime Minister, Andy Burnham has brought major changes in tone, focus, approach and communications, with large scale changes to the Cabinet and junior ministerial posts, and the machinery of government. The announcements so far open many opportunities for the VCFSE sector to be a key partner through codesign and codelivery.
