It's that time of year again! The National Festival of Making is looking for volunteers for the 2026 festival!

Taking over Blackburn town centre on the 4th & 5th of July 2026 the festival is on the lookout for volunteers to fulfil various roles. From workshop helpers to exhibition invigilators, evaluation support and brew bosses, every single volunteer helps make the festival the success that it is.

In 2025, over 100 people signed up to be part of the volunteer team. We asked some of them what motivated them to volunteer over the festival weekend - heres a snapshot of what they told us:

• I wanted to gain work experience and develop my confidence more
• I wanted to make a difference and help out the community i live in
• i do it every year and enjoy it. I like mixing with others and having fun
• To help showcase our town
• Chance to engage in something artistic
• I enjoy arts and crafts, but don't often get the chance
