Super Slow Way March Updates

24/3/2026

Picture
As we move into spring, ongoing activity resumes along the Super Slow Way!

This month you can join us as we welcome the light at our Exbury Egg Spring Equinox with artist Stephen Turner (Friday 20th March). We'll also be hosting a Clayton Creatives Open Day (Tuesday 31st March) where you can come and get a taste of what happens in our weekly sessions. And the opportunity to have your say on the kind of work Super Slow Way plans for the rest of 2026 in our upcoming Community Assemblies.

Regular activity also includes our Clayton Creatives Art Cafe sessions happening every Tuesday, currently facilitated by artist Cath Ford, weekly creative workshops and Solstice Garden sessions at the Exbury Egg in Burnley, our Canalside Wild Walks with artist Ian Halawi and our monthly Taste of Transformation events in Nelson which take place towards then end of each month. You'll find more information on all this activity below.

We are busy planning for our new programme of activity starting in April so we look forward to sharing more information about that in the coming weeks. You'll find all new workshops and activities on the ‘What’s On’ section of our website. Activities are free and all are welcome.

Please keep in touch with The Super Slow Way on Facebook, Instagram, our website and of course this newsletter to hear about everything that will be happening, and if you do visit any of our outdoor spaces or take part in any of our activities, we'd love to see so be sure to tag us in your social media photos @superslowway.

Spring Equinox at the Exbury Egg, Friday 20th March, 2.30 - 4.30pm

Join us next Friday for our Spring Equinox at Stephen Turner’s Exbury Egg!

At the Spring Equinox we will gather at the Exbury Egg to welcome the return of light and plant wild garlic in the Egg Garden. Long associated with protection, renewal and the first foods of the year, wild garlic meets the egg - an ancient symbol of new life. Afterwards, we’ll share Eggman’s famous eggy bread with wild garlic butter to celebrate the turning of the season. This event is free and all are welcome to attend!

We also have multiple weekly creative activities happening currently as part of our programme at Stephen Turner's Exbury Egg in Burnley! More info can be found here.

Community Assemblies

If you’d like to help shape what happens in your community and have your say about the work Super Slow Way plans as well as getting actively involved, why not join one of our Community Assemblies? All our activity along the Linear Park stretch is shaped by steering groups of local residents (in Blackburn, Hyndburn, Burnley and Pendle) supported by The Super Slow Way and local partners. If you’d like to find out more about assemblies in Pendle or Blackburn contact [email protected] and for assemblies in Burnley and Hyndburn contact [email protected]

Please see here for the most up to date information regarding our community assemblies in Blackburn, Hyndburn, Burnley and Pendle.
The Clayton Creatives Open Day, Tuesday 31st March, 11am - 1.30pm

You can join the Clayton Creatives for a community open day on Tuesday 31st March from 11am - 1.30pm. Join artist Cath Ford to make your own decorative bird hanging, create your own abstract collage and even try a bit of line dancing and more! There will also be a chance to help shape what happens in your community and have your say about the work Super Slow Way plans for the next year. All free family fun and refreshments provided!

The Clayton Creatives regular creative sessions run each Tuesday from 10.30am - 1.30pm at The Baptist Church, 54 Sparth Rd, Clayton Le Moors, BB5 5PZ. Our sessions are open to everyone, whatever your age or ability level.

More information available here.
Wild Walks – Exploring Heritage & Landscape, Wednesday 25th March, 1-3pm (then monthly)

Join artist Ian Halawi for a series of creative Canalside walks to explore the blue and green spaces along the Leeds Liverpool Canal. We’ll identify and map what you see, from heritage buildings to wildlife, factories to flora and hear your stories about what the linear landscape means to you.

This walk will take place in Blackburn, meet at Calypso Restaurant, Eanam Wharf, Blackburn BB1 5BY. Walks will typically be a gentle stroll of approximately 2 miles. Light refreshments will be provided.
More information available here.
Community Iftar with Youth Works in the Kitchen

Earlier this month we welcomed over sixty people to our community Iftar at Unity Wellbeing Centre. The Iftar was a collaboration with Youth Works in the Kitchen & Mums to Mums as part of Dana Olărescu's Taste of Transformation artist residency - which sees the FOOD Nelson manifesto activated across the town. Youth Works, a group of young people from Marsden Heights have been hosting community meals for a number of months now with great success and these will continue on the third Thursday of each month.

You can read more about the Iftar here, and find information about future activity here.
Blackburn - Town of Culture bid

Creative and community organisations across Blackburn are coming together to develop a bid to be crowned UK Town of Culture in 2028. Organisations leading the town’s cultural renaissance, including Super Slow Way, British Textile Biennial, National Festival of Making and Blackburn Museum are supporting the Expression of Interest stage alongside a wide range of local partners, including Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. We want to hear from as many people as possible to help shape the story, bring ideas to life and drive this ambitious bid forward. Whether you represent heritage, culture, education or a community organisation, your voice can help celebrate Blackburn’s creativity, heritage and community in 2028.

You can get involved by either sharing your ideas through the Blackburn Town of Culture Online Portal or heading to Blackburn Library to chat in person on Tuesday 24 March 2026 from 1–3 pm.

Burnley and Accrington are also planning to bid for UK Town of Culture, so we'll have more information regarding their consultation process as it happens!
