If you haven't visited one of our charity shops already, we have three fantastic shops that are filled with clothes, books, homeware and more. Shopping in one of our charity shops not only supports our work with unpaid carers across East Lancashire and also helps to develop a circular economy, reusing and repurposing items instead of throwing them away. If having a clear-out was part of your new years resolution, we can accept donations at:
We have a new support group for carers of adults with mental health needs. We will be working in partnership with the Carers Service, Mental Health Liaison Team, and the LSCFT Carer experience lead to provide support and advice. The sessions will be held on the first Friday of each month, with the first session talking place on Friday 6th February from 2pm till 4pm, at the MUAC building at Blackburn hospital, which is across from the A&E entrance. Our next Understanding Dementia Course will be held on Friday 13th February, 10:30am till 3pm at The Chai Centre in Burnley. If you haven't heard about our Understanding Dementia course yet, it's a fantastic opportunity to develop skills and confidence to support you in your caring role. During the free one day course you'll also have the opportunity to meet other carers and share your experiences and offer peer support. To book your free place contact us via email [email protected] If you can't make any of the course dates on the poster below, we'll be releasing more dates in our upcoming Spring / Summer Carers Link magazine. What we've been up to in January... After the success of our last pamper day, our Participation & Engagement Team organised more pamper days for carers to attend at Accrington & Rossendale College and Nelson & Colne College. Carers who attended the sessions were treated to a relaxing few hours and left with lovely new hairstyles. Thank you to the talented college students who shared their skills with us. Our ASD Support Officer, Laura, organised a lovely outing to Mitton Hall for afternoon tea. If you haven't visited already, Mitton Hall is a beautiful country house on the banks of the river Ribble. The event was for carers of someone with ASD, and included transport on the minibus, driven by our very own Participation and Engagement Officer, Angela. As you can see by the photos below, Mitton Hall is a luxurious setting for afternoon tea, which consisted of dainty finger sandwiches and delicious cakes, and was enjoyed by all attending. We received this lovely feedback, "Thanks so much for organising the afternoon tea..it was a really lovely event. I'd love to come to more events". January felt like a very long month, so to banish those January blues we invited customers to our Accrington shop and café to join us for a free cup of tea and to try some mindful colouring. Mindful Colouring offers numerous benefits including helping people to relax, improve their concentration, and reduce anxiety. The event helped to bring people together on a cold wintery day and we definitely have some new fans of mindful colouring! Our ASD Officer facilitated a fantastic Cygnet training session at our office in Accrington. The course has been designed by Barnardo's, is for 6 weeks, and helps parents and carers by providing a supportive environment, and a chance to meet other carers experiencing similar challenges. A previous attendee provided the following feedback after attending the course: "Very beneficial, helped to know I'm not alone with this journey. If you are a carer for somebody with ASD and you're interested in attending this informative course, keep an eye out for new course dates being released soon. Angela was out in our minibus this month collecting donations for our charity shops. Staff from Pendle West PCN and BPRCVS kindly donated items they no longer had any need for. Our minibus was full of wonderful items which will now be on sale at our charity shops. If your workplace would like to send us a donation of items get in touch and we can organise a collection.
