Art & Wellbeing Workshop Series at HAPPA

Begin 2026 by reconnecting with creativity, calm and self-care through our Art & Wellbeing Workshop Series at HAPPA, led by Val Hughes – a highly respected local artist, experienced lecturer and published author.
Designed especially for adults, these thoughtfully curated workshops offer a gentle escape from the pace of everyday life. Each session invites you to slow down, learn new creative techniques, and enjoy a welcoming, supportive environment where wellbeing is just as important as the finished artwork.
Whether you are completely new to art or looking to develop existing creative skills, Val will guide you step by step, ensuring every participant feels confident, relaxed, and inspired.

Time: Thursdays, 10:30am – 12:30pm

2026 Workshop Programme

22 January 2026 – Needle Felting Workshop

Discover the wonderfully tactile and calming art of needle felting. Learn how to shape and sculpt wool fibres using specialist felting needles to create a unique handmade piece. This slow, rhythmic process is deeply relaxing and perfect for creative mindfulness.

19 February 2026 – Slow Stitching: Textile Card Workshop
Take a mindful approach to creativity with slow stitching. In this soothing session, you’ll create a textured, personalised textile card using simple hand-stitch techniques. Ideal for unwinding, reducing stress, and enjoying the gentle rhythm of needle and thread.

19 March 2026 – Mixed Media & Block Printing: Spring Art
Celebrate the arrival of spring with a playful exploration of mixed media and block printing. Experiment with colour, texture, and pattern to create a vibrant seasonal artwork. This session encourages creative confidence and joyful expression.

23 April 2026 – Watercolour Landscape Workshop
Inspired by the beautiful surroundings of HAPPA, this workshop introduces the foundations of watercolour landscape painting. Learn techniques for capturing light, movement and atmosphere, and create a peaceful, expressive artwork to take home.
