Offshoots Community Garden

​Offshoots is a one acre community garden tucked away in the historic walled garden of Towneley Hall in Towneley Park, Burnley.As well as being a hub for volunteering and community sessions, we are an educational site with a focus on environmental sustainability and how we can change the ways we live for the benefit of ourselves, our families and our communities.

We are home to:

• Bee apiary
• Wood yard & workshop
• Food growing & permaculture
• Walter Segal cabin

Our garden sessions provide opportunities to meet new people, spend time in a relaxing environment, develop personal and social skills while being physically active and mentally stimulated.

Beekeeping
Bees are incredibly important to life on our planet – they are vital to us because of the role bees play as a pollinator.  Bees pollinate many plants we harvest for food in the UK and throughout the world.

We have had a bee apiary at Offshoots for more than 10 years.  It’s a vital part of our site at offshoots as it demonstrates the role animals play in a sustainable lifestyle. The bee apiary at Offshoots now features a fantastic observation garden – where you can sit in safety outside the apiary behind our fencing and netting and watch bees coming and going from the apiary.
