NEW Autism Support - Peer Support Groups and Autism Training Course We have a brand new addition to our team - a dedicated ASD Support Officer here to help you in your caring role and in supporting someone with ASD. We can help you access information, advice and support including: · Free Autism Training for carers · Activities and workshops · Information and guidance to help you in your caring role Monthly ASD Support Group Are you caring for someone living with ASD? If yes, you are welcome to join us once a month for a chat over a cuppa or delicious lunch for just £5 including a drink. Our staff will be available to offer support, advice & answer any questions. It is also an opportunity to share experiences and support one another. 1st Thursday of every month 10am - 12 noon Carers Link Accrington Community Facility, Blackburn Road, BB5 1LE *Burnley Peer Support Groups to start from January 2025 at Downtown, Charter Walk Shopping Centre* Cygnet Autism Training The Cygnet programme was developed by Barnardo’s with the support of parents and/or care givers, for parents and care givers! The course aims to create a supportive environment of carers who may be experiencing similar challenges, and to present information on autism that provides opportunities for you to consider and adapt and/or reinforce the way you support your child’s needs. We ask that if you wish to undertake the course, you try to attend all sessions, are open to participating in activities, and remember confidentiality of those sharing within the groups. This will make the course more enjoyable and effective for all! The courses will be running weekly for 6/7 consecutive weeks with our dedicated ASD Support Officer, with more dates and locations in 2025 to be announced: Accrington: Wednesdays 10am - 1pm Carers Link Accrington Community Facility, Blackburn Road, BB5 1lE 30th October 2024 6th November 2024 13th November 2024 20th November 2024 27th November 2024 4th December 2024 11th December 2024 Burnley: Wednesdays 10am - 1pm Down Town, Charter Walk Shopping Centre (above New Look) Burnley, BB11 1QJ 8th January 2025 15th January 2025 22nd January 2025 29th January 2025 5th February 2025 12th February 2025 Booking essential - Call us to book your free place! Carers Meetups Are you a carer looking to join a social group? Do you need some me time and rest bite from your caring role? Then why not come to one of our carers meet ups, all across East Lancashire. Are you a former Carer? Have you recently lost someone and are looking for some support? On the third Wednesday of every month we run a former carer and bereavement support group for those who are no longer carers and/or have lost the person they once cared for. The next session will be on Wednesday 16th October 2024 11am-1pm Call Angela on 01254 387444 for more information Trip to Lancaster Castle! Saturday 26th October Join us for a day out to Lancaster Castle! With a guided tour, you will have the chance to hear about the castle’s history with Royal visitors, the trials of the Lancashire Witches and law, order, crime and punishment! Understanding Dementia Course Winter/Spring Dates Our new dates for our Understanding Dementia Course have been released: Thursday 21st November, Trinity Hub, Clitheroe, 10am - 3.30pm Thursday 9th January 2025, Carers Link Accrington, 10am - 3.30pm Monday 10th, 17th, 24th March, Microsoft Teams, 6.30pm - 8.30pm This course is designed to help you develop the skills and confidence to support you in your caring role. We will address key topics of diagnosis and progression of symptoms, treatment, services, and changing relationships. All course materials are provided including a free buffet lunch. Alzheimer’s Society Carers Information and Support Programme Alzheimer’s Society Carers Information and Support Programme (CrISP) is a FREE programme for people who care and support a person living with dementia. It is designed to improve knowledge, skills and understanding and provide up-to-date relevant information. Delivered by trained local Dementia Advisers to small groups of up to 12 people, carers can share their experiences and find out about local and national services that may be of help. In October, the groups will take place Wednesdays 1pm–3:30pm – Padiham Town Hall. There is no cost for the programme, however places need to be booked in advance. Our Carers Link 500 Club lottery was only launched in April this year, and has raised an incredible amount for our unpaid carers! Entries so far have raised enough to potentially pay for: · Costs to allow 125 carers to attend our Understanding Dementia Course for FREE or · 37 Carer Awareness Training courses for professionals and employers to better support unpaid carers. or · Subsidised activities for a potential 375 carers! If you would like to join our lottery, and contribute to our continued work supporting unpaid carers, you can do so for just £10 a month.
