The Lancashire Place Partnership met on the 25th of July. The focus for the partnership was on communication and engagement, palliative and end of life care, and a “deep dive” into the progress we are making with the partnership in North Lancashire.
We have our PEAK Project funded by Children in Need being delivered in communities and schools in Burnley and Pendle for 12–18-year-olds. As part of this project, we can deliver a variety of wellbeing services for free, and we have some spare capacity this summer, for example we could offer delivery in HAF groups over the holidays.
There is a drive to fund more Social Prescribers across the ICB – we want to know whether VCFSE organisations think this is a good use of resources or whether there should be more investment in the organisations receiving clients, or a mix.
The Levelling Up East Lancashire programme will deliver Accessible and Vibrant Town Centre projects in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. The aim of each project is to improve experiences in town centres for local communities and visitors to make them more accessible, attractive and to support our local economies.
This Thursday (25th) is World Drowning Prevention Day. Led by the World Health Organisation, the day aims to shine a light on drowning as a public health issue, reminding people that ‘Anyone can drown, no one should’.
As you know drowning is one of the UK’s leading causes of accidental death. Each year more than 400 people drown after tripping, falling or just by underestimating the risks associated with being near water. Many more people are left with life changing injuries in water related incidents. To help raise awareness of the day, we are grateful to those of you who have been able to allow or support for a number of landmarks across the county to be lit blue during the evening of 25 July. This will be replicated not only around the UK but across the world too. This year the landmarks that are due to be illuminated include: · Blackpool Tower and Prom Arches · Lytham Windmill · Marine Hall, Fleetwood · Skelmersdale Light Cube · Ormskirk Clock Tower · Chorley Town Hall · Rivington Pike and the Pigeon Tower This year’s conference ‘Summit by the Sea: Skilling & Scaling Up for a New Era’ will be held at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton on 14 November 2024.
As we transition into a new era, the challenges and opportunities facing the VCFSE sector are evolving rapidly. With the UK Shared Prosperity Fund likely nearing its end, what are the implications and next steps with the new government? What strategies and policies will they adopt to support sustainable growth for communities? In our 2024 Conference and AGM, we will explore the critical themes of growth, devolution, and prevention within our sector. We invite you to join us. There will be opportunities for networking and workshops in areas such as harnessing the power of AI, becoming an effective influencer, exploring social impact with social value toolkit, and getting green. Burnley Council have launched an art work competition. There is a summary detailed below. More information is attached or can be found on our website at Council Launches Litter Competition - Designer Trash - burnley.gov.uk
There have recently been reports of a number of deaths as well as a number of a non-fatal overdoses in Manchester. It’s believed that this could be related to a batch of extremely dangerous heroin in circulation which are believed to contain the highly dangerous and potent synthetic opioid, Nitazine.
Nominations are open for a number of local area sport, health and wellbeing awards. If you have a community group, leader or volunteer who deserves recognition for all their work nominate them today!
What do you need to become more research active?
We understand that lots of VCFSE organisations are keen to become more 'research active' and embed better and more rigorous evidence in their practices. A recent piece of work highlighted one of the barriers to this happening was a lack of skills and knowledge. We are keen to understand what the training needs of the sector are around research, and so are carrying out some research to this effect! The aim is to eventually develop a pilot training programme based upon what colleagues have set out is important to them. |
