Navigate Your Community To Wellbeing

Become a volunteer Navigator and steer clients through a journey of wellbeing discovery. We need people just like you to make a difference

Volunteer Navigators help improve the health and wellbeing of residents in your local community. Have a positive impact upon the lives of your neighbours and local residents by volunteering for the Community Care Navigator project.

If you care about the health and wellbeing of others and want to become a positive influence on someone’s life volunteer as a Navigator and lead people towards a happier, healthier life.

Volunteering as a Navigator is a very worthwhile experience. A couple of spare hours a week is all you need to get involved.

Marion Anforth, a volunteer Navigator, said “since joining the Navigator project as a volunteer in October 2016, my experience has been very positive.

I have had the chance to provide one-to-one support to 2 clients locally to engage in various community based activities, helping them to feel less socially isolated and improve their wellbeing which is the main aim of the project.

Being able to get involved initially with networking activities, contacting GP surgeries and other organisations, and raising awareness of the project was very rewarding for me, gaining confidence and useful skills for future employment. I can choose the amount of time I give to the project to fit in with my other commitments. My Coordinator will ask if I feel comfortable with the clients I am matched with and provide supervision and regular reviews to ensure the client and I are making progress. The clients are only matched with a Navigator they will feel at ease with.”

If you’re considering volunteering look no further than this hugely successful, important project. The Community Care Navigator project is funded by the East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group and has proven to be a real success.

The purpose of the project is to improve the health and wellbeing of people who are vulnerable and socially isolated. The project aims to reduce pressures on GP surgeries. There are a large number of unnecessary, non-clinical appointments made each week by people who are suffering from illnesses and conditions that are best treated with non-medical interventions.

This is where you come in. GP patients are referred to the Community Care Navigator project and your role as volunteer Navigator is to assist and support a client to attend social groups, community groups and voluntary organisations to increase social inclusion and ultimately improve the health and wellbeing of your client.

Volunteer Navigators are supported by a Community Care Coordinator. Full training will be provided before working with clients. All travel expenses are fully reimbursed. BPRCVS are very adaptable and flexible around your commitments enabling you to continue as normal every day.

Tracy Bullock, a volunteer Navigator, said "I thoroughly enjoy my role of Community Care Navigator. We use the well-being club and have found it very welcoming. I have already seen a fantastic change in my client who can’t wait to attend next week. I am gaining experience as a volunteer to support my university degree and I feel that what the clients gain from the service is immeasurable."
