First Year Of ESOL Classes Completed

A cause for celebration!

On Thursday 19th July we celebrated our Burnley and Nelson students’ first completed year of ESOL classes. This was arranged by Al Hayat and held at ShahQila Restaurant in Blackburn. Also in attendance were students from Lancaster, Blackburn, and Hyndburn along with representatives from the home office and the mayor of Hyndburn.

The Burnley students received their certificates along with their ESOL tutor, Anjum Anwar, of Al Hayat.

Three of the Burnley students, Tarek, Ousama, and Nermen gave very emotional speeches in English about why they are here, why they had to flee Syria, and their positive experiences about settling in the UK with their children. They spoke from the heart and it was the highlight of the event.

Friday 20th July was the last day of the Burnley students’ ESOL classes. They have now completed and passed their courses for the first year and will resume their second year of ESOL in September. Thank you to Simon Gill and the wonderful staff at Linkbridge Community Centre, Burnley for providing us with a great room to conduct the classes and for their general support and help over the past year. We look forward to resuming classes at Linkbridge in September.
