Try It Event

An event for people with learning or physical disability

Janette Holden, the Volunteer Centre Coordinator, attended an event called Try It at Burnley Football Club on Monday 23rd July.

This event was organised by Alternative Futures. Try It was an event aimed at people with a learning or physical disability. Many people with learning or physical disabilities struggle to integrate into the wider society. It can be very difficult to find work or access education. It can even be difficult getting involved in a meaningful or social activity. Many also consider volunteering, but face similar struggles accessing the plentiful opportunities.

On the day there were many information stalls and also stalls providing activities and games. BPRCVS had a stall and was there to speak to people about volunteering in their local community. Also as part of the Strengthening Communities - Volunteering In Lancashire project, we are able to help and support people into work, training and education as well as voluntary roles.

It was a good event and Janette discuss a range of opportunities with a number of individuals who expressed an interest in volunteering to develop confidence skills and learn new skills that could be applied to a work based situation.
