Barbara Ashworth

BPRCVS Trustee Barbara Ashworth

Trustee nominated by Seniors Together in Rossendale

In May 2012 I was appointed to the CVS  Executive as an elected member representative of Rossendale Borough Council. I became a Trustee at the AGM in 2015, being nominated by Seniors Together in Rossendale (STIR), the Rossendale Over 50s Forum, a member of CVS. I wanted to be a Trustee so that I could have more say in the decision making process (Councillor reps have no voting rights)

I am retired from paid employment, having spent most of my working life in the voluntary sector, managing paid staff and volunteers, and I feel this gives me a good background into the issues involved in the day to day running of the CVS.

I am particularly interested in health and social care provision and am the health portfolio holder on Rossendale Council, as well as being Older People's Champion. I recognise the need to raise the profile of CVS in Rossendale and want to ensure that there is a balanced delivery of services across all three Boroughs so that residents see what CVS has to offer.

I am a member of the CVS Strategy Group in addition to regular Trustee duties.

I am a Local Authority appointed Governor at Bacup Nursery School and am a Trustee of Carer’s Link and of Bacup Pride. I am Chair of Seniors Together in Rossendale and attend the Lancashire 50plus Assembly in that capacity. I am also a member of my local Patient Participation Group(PPG), currently acting Chair. I Chair the Rossendale Health and Wellbeing Partnership and represent Rossendale on the East Lancs Health and Wellbeing Partnership. I am the Council’s representative on the Dementia Friendly Rossendale Steering Group and the Rossendale PPG network.

When time permits, I like to go on holiday!
